One of our day's visits was highlighted by a trip to Proan, a vertically integrated egg facility, and the largest in Mexico in terms of egg production with 18 million hens. Proan also has swine and dairy facilities, although we did not tour them.
Chicks can enter this facility as early as one day old, and they will stay on Proan’s site until slaughter at the end of their productive lifestyle. On our stop, we were able to see them mixing feed as well as view the railroad reception terminal. Proan was very impressive. The facilities were state of the art, very clean, and the employees on the tour seemed extremely knowledgeable. It seemed to be the favorite visit of the trip to many of the farmer participants.
